I have been teaching yoga for eight years, working with wounded soldiers, pre and post-natal moms, moms and babies, seniors, and pretty much everybody else. My focus is offering something for every person. Yoga is not competitive. It is a way to nurture and strengthen your body, and calm your mind and emotions. A yoga teacher is really a "river guide," taking you on a meditative, physical journey, like a dance. You explore the possibilities of movement for yourself, in the moment, modifying, or skipping, the postures offered as you need. There is no requirement for age or body type. You only need an open mind and heart, and a willingness to try something different, and see where it takes you.
**Benefits of Yoga include lowered blood pressure, increased mental focus, greater strength and flexibility, easing neck and back pain, to name a few. My classes are inspired by my teachers, so, this vinyasa flow style is a slower flow, that gradually builds heat in the body and is informed by somatics and dance movement therapy. It prepares the body for postures more specifically than a class that offers a little bit of everything. For example, if the focus is loosening the hips, the postures will emphasize gently lengthening the hamstrings and warming the hip joints, gradually increasing intensity, and, may involve working toward a half or full side split. Each posture is offered with options for modifications to make them accessible. Questions are always welcome in class.
